Dnipro (until 2016 – Dnipropetrovsk) is one of the largest cities in Ukraine, located on the Dnieper River. It is an industrial, cultural and educational center, known for its history, modern architecture and development of the space industry.

History

The Dnieper was founded in 1776 by the city of Katerinoslav in honor of Empress Catherine II. The place played an important role in the development of industry, trade and culture in the region. During the Radian period, it became the center of the space industry, which was often closed to foreigners.

Economics

Dnipro is the heart of the industrial sector of Ukraine. Great metallurgical, machine-building and chemical industries are established here. The place is also an important transport hub with advanced infrastructure.

Culture and enlightenment

The Dnieper is known for its cultural foundations, including:

• Theaters: Dnipro Academic Drama and Comedy Theater, Opera Theatre.
• Museums: Historical Museum named after. Yavornitsky, ATO Museum.
• Parks and embankments: The longest embankment in Europe with a length of over 23 km.
